It has been a long journey to get to this point. Instead of sending my film off to be developed, I am taking matters into my own hands. There was a few months of research and deciding how I could get a simple start into the film development process. The simplest option was developing black and white film using Cinestill’s Black and White Monobath.
The tools I got for the job include:
- Patterson tank (2x 35mm, 1x 120)
- Changing bag
- Hanging clips
- Squegee
- Cartridge opener
- Thermometer
- 500ml glass beaker
- Funnel
- Chemical storage container
- Dish pan
I will need to take some time and practice transferring film into the tank from within the changing bag. There is test 35mm film available for me. A good number of times of practice should give me enough familiarity to go forward.
This is going to be a really cool experience. I want to get this process correct because the reward in seeing what images will be developed is immeasurable.
To start, I am going to be developing film from 2 black and white Kodak disposable cameras. I am hopeful everything is going to turn out just fine, but I do enjoy the suspense as well.
